Friend Of Gene Hackman Shares Significant Health Details About The Actor & His Wife Betsy Arakawa After They Were Found Dead Together In Their Home

As the entertainment world continues to mourn the losses of Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa, more details are slowly coming together about their mysterious deaths

On Feb. 26, the bodies of Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa were found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A maintenance worker summoned a security official when the door went unanswered. The latter called the police after noticing their bodies through a window.

Hackman’s body was discovered on a floor near their kitchen, and Arakawa was found dead inside a bathroom with scattered pills and a prescription bottle on the countertop. The two had been dead for several days, with investigators claiming that Hackman likely died on Feb. 17, since his pacemaker stopped working that day.

Barbara Lenihan, her husband Daniel and son Aaron were friends and neighbors of Hackman and Arakawa. The family spoke to People Magazine and revealed that Hackman’s was declining, though Arakawa encouraged him to stay active in his final years:

“In the past year Hackman had kept to his home more, and his health had been slipping, the Lenihans say. He gave up riding his bike, but his wife had encouraged him to stay active with yoga and puzzles. Betsy herself, says Barbara, seemed “in perfect health.”
