Alongside his wife, Anna, whom he married in 1987, Ray Romano has raised four remarkable children: Alexandra, twins Matthew and Gregory, and Joseph. While they largely stay out of the spotlight, the Romano kids occasionally make headlines, offering glimpses of their talents and family bond.
Most recently, the Romano family made a rare appearance together on the red carpet for the premiere of Ray’s new television show, “No Good Deed.” This special occasion gave fans a chance to see the family united. Here’s a closer look at Ray’s kids and their unique stories.

The Firstborn: Ray’s Parenting Trial Run
Ray’s first experience with fatherhood came with the birth of his daughter, Alexandra Romano, in New York City. Reflecting on those early days, he shared a memorable story about when he picked up his wife and newborn daughter from St. Vincent’s Hospital.
As he lovingly cradled his new baby while leaving the hospital, he discovered they had towed his car. “We had to go to Queens in a yellow cab,” he recalled. “My daughter came home in a yellow cab.”
Now 34, Alexandra — fondly called Ally by her family — has carved out a successful career in public relations (PR). She works at a PR firm managing high-profile clients, including celebrity chefs and restaurants.
Although Alexandra’s role keeps her behind the scenes, her success is a source of pride for her father. He once hinted at her early interest in the entertainment industry and often celebrates her personal milestones.
In April 2023, Ray revealed Alexandra had gotten engaged, and the following year, on September 21, 2024, she tied the knot with Zachary Wilezol at the iconic New York Public Library.
Ray proudly walked his firstborn down the aisle, sharing a heartfelt moment on her wedding day. Fans, reacting to her pictures on social media, called her “Beautiful” and gorgeous.”
While Alexandra has chosen a career path outside the spotlight, her brothers have had closer ties to the entertainment industry. Next up are Ray’s identical twin sons, Matthew and Gregory.
The Twins: Behind-the-Scenes Creators and Ray’s On-Screen Easter Eggs
Ray and Anna’s middle children are their identical twins, Matthew and Gregory, now 31. Fans of “Everybody Loves Raymond” may recognize their names from the show’s pilot episode, where Ray’s on-screen twin sons were originally named Matthew and Gregory.
This was a nod to his real-life sons, but Ray later requested the names be changed, feeling it was too personal. The characters’ names became Michael and Jeffrey before the show began production.
Gregory once shared, “We were 3 years old when my dad’s show started.” He continued, “I wasn’t around for his early struggles — having to learn stand-up and all that. What I’ve seen is the success of being able to create your own show and have it be so successful.”

Growing up, the twins functioned as mirror images of each other. Gregory recalled, “Matt and I were very much always together, same classes, same friends. We had the same hobbies and interests.”
However, they sometimes failed to recognize how in synch they were. Gregory shared, “Our friends would have to tell us that we were best friends with each other,” noting, “We didn’t see it.”

Like their older sister, Matthew and Gregory have shown interest in the entertainment industry, focusing on behind-the-scenes work in television production.

Matthew has worked on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” In 2017, Ray brought him on stage during an appearance on the show to playfully help him find a girlfriend. However, the actor’s matchmaking antics didn’t stop there.

Days later, he did the same for his other son while appearing on “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” where Gregory worked. The twins have clearly inherited their father’s creative spirit.

In 2023, they were reportedly working on a documentary together. While their personal lives have remained private, Ray did reveal during a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that one of the twins got married a few months before their sister Alexandra.
In a November 2024 interview, the identical twins opened up about their struggles in finding their way as adults. When the pair started their mid-20s, they started feeling stuck. They barely gave college a try before dropping out.
The twins then found work as production assistants on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and “The James Corden Show.” However, the gigs weren’t leading to meaningful careers and they still lived at home in bedrooms filled with memorabilia collected as teenagers.

Knowing they had to do something to feel unstuck, Matthew started the lengthy audition process for “Survivor.” But he pulled out the last minute, close to becoming a constant, because he got anxious about living that far off the grid.
While he struggled with feelings of failure, his father told Mark Duplass, his friend, about their issues with finding their career paths. In 2018, Duplass suggested the twins vlog about their lives, something he envisioned turning into something bigger.

He promised to produce their movie it the vlog became a success. Gregory recalled, “He basically just gave us a camera and said, ‘go out and see what you get.’ And we came back many, many years later.” He added, “I think he’d forgotten about us.”
They were 26 when they started working on their vlog which has since led to their documentary, “The Romano Twins.” The documentary, which premiered on November 9, 2024, is about their quarter-life crisis. The debut was at the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival.

Matthew said, “It has been a long time coming.” He added, “Working on this for years, there would be moments where you’d go, ‘let’s scrap the whole thing.’ But then you come back to it and realize there’s something here.”
In the documentary, each twin documented his separate adventure on camera. Matthew went on a wilderness trip, while his brother traveled around the country performing stand-up comedy at small dive bars and restaurants.

Gregory has since admitted that he’s done with his dream of becoming a stand-up comedian. He said, “I know that my dad went through it when he was doing stand-up for 11 years before the show, and I’ve heard his stories, but emotionally, it’s kind of tough.”
Ray’s son confessed, “I put too much pressure on myself, and I think that could be a universal feeling no matter how you grew up — people don’t like to fail. I feel this pressure not to fail.” The twins’ father, who appears in their documentary, said it was hard seeing his son take failure so badly.

Ray also believes Gregory’s outlook is “a little skewed” due to actor’s success. The star said, “You see him go to these horrible dives to try and do stand-up, and not be so successful, and it kills me. I just want to grab you by the shirt and say, ‘You’re not supposed to do well for the first five years.'”
The identical twins are now working on a movie script with their younger brother. With the duo working on building their presence in the entertainment industry, attention now turns to the youngest Romano sibling, Joseph, known within the family for his sharp wit and memorable one-liners.
The Youngest: A ‘Two-Word Ninja’ with a Flair for Wit
Joseph Romano, the youngest of Ray and Anna’s four children, is 26. The actor has often shared anecdotes about his lastborn child, praising his natural comedic timing and clever quips.

One memorable moment occurred when Joseph came home at 6 a.m. Ray confronted him, asking, “Joe, you come home at 6 a.m.?” Joseph’s hilarious response was brief but impactful: “For now.” The remark left Ray pondering the passage of time, jokingly calling it an “existential crisis.”
Another notable story involved Joseph walking around the house in his underwear while his brother and a friend were fully dressed. When Ray pointed it out, Joseph quipped, “I win.” The actor has affectionately dubbed him a “two-word ninja” for his ability to deliver sharp responses with minimal effort.
Joseph has also expressed interest in taking acting classes, although, as per Ray’s interview, he hasn’t started them yet. With his quick wit and natural comedic timing, it remains to be seen if he will follow in his father’s footsteps in show business.
However, Joseph’s life became an inspiration for his father to make his directorial debut with the 2022 film “Somewhere in Queens.” The youngest Romano was a star basketball player in high school.
Ray knew his son wasn’t going to play the sport in college so during his last game he was surprised when he became emotional. The actor realized that his son’s basketball era was coming to an end and he’d miss seeing Joseph play, and his role as the father of the star player.
Ray’s movie would be about the Italian-American working class, but also about a father who generally felt significant except when his son played basketball, making him the father of the star player.
The comedian revealed how he’d communicate with his sons before doing bits about them in his stand-up routines. His sons didn’t mind and were actually keen on it, but when Ray did his film, he didn’t run it by Joseph because he felt most of the story was fictional.

Ironically, Joseph had a small part in his father’s movie, he appears as the boy in a pencil costume. When someone asks his name, Joseph’s one line is “Wally,” but he sounds so much like his father that Ray’s writing partner felt they needed to dub it in because viewers will think it’s him.
The actor revealed that he didn’t plan to direct the film and was talked into it by his agent.
Reflections from Ray: Fatherhood, Fame, and His Children’s Careers
Ray’s life has been shaped by fatherhood as much as by fame. His journey from being a stand-up comic to a television star has come with life lessons he continues to pass on to his children.
While on the red carpet for his show “No Good Deed,” Ray shared his thoughts on his kids’ growing interest in entertainment. “I know the business, and I know even people that have ‘it’ don’t get it,” he stated.

But he also sees the positives. “I want them to be passionate about something and go for it. And if that’s it, then good. I’m glad,” he said. His reflections are rooted in his experience as a young comic struggling to break into the business.

“I was passionate about stand-up, and I gave it up two times,” Ray shared. “It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. It’s all about the journey.” The actor’s material as a stand-up comedian has changed as well. In his early days, he focused on the innocent quirks of his young children.

But as his kids grew up, his comedy evolved. “Now that they’re people […] we can have a conversation,” he said, noting how much richer his storytelling has become thanks to his children’s perspectives.
As a father of four, Ray remains supportive yet realistic about the entertainment industry’s demands. He admits to being nervous about his kids’ choices, but also proud to see them chasing their dreams. “It’s scary, but I think I’d rather have them do it. Even if they fail and/or flail,” he said, “at least they’re out there.”
A few years back, Ray Romano and his sons appeared on an episode of “Celebrity Family Feud.” Their appearance showcased the family’s playful rapport and humor, with the children’s wit fitting right in with their father’s comedic energy.
