Francisco San Martin has died at the age of 39, according to reports.
The actor, who’d starred in several television series, was found dead at his Los Angeles home on January 16.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office told Hollywood LA News that San Martin is believed to have died by suicide.
San Martin was best known for his role as Dario Hernandez on NBC’s Days Of Our Lives in 2011, who’d appeared to be a petty thief when he first arrived in Salem, having stolen Gabriella’s earring and Melanie’s necklace. It was later discovered that Dario was in fact in Salem to investigate Arianna’s murder, after the case went cold in the Salem PD. The role was later reprised by Jordi Vilasuso.
San Martin also starred on CBS’s The Bold and the Beautiful in 2017 as Mateo, a staff member at Forrester Manor who was paid by Sheila to seduce Quinn.
The actor’s TV credits also include appearances on The CW’s Jane The Virgin, where he starred in seasons 3 and 4 as Fabian Regalo del Cielo, an actor on Rogelio’s telenovela Los Viajes de Guillermo. Sparks flew between Fabian and Jane (Gina Rodriguez) and the pair had a brief and messy romance.
San Martin also held a small role on the Steven Soderbergh film Behind The Candelabra starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon.
According to Forbes, San Martin’s Days co-star Camila Banus, who played his on-screen sister Gabi, shared a heartfelt tribute to him on Instagram.
She wrote: “Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend. Love you mucho mucho mucho; I wish I had told you more.”
San Martin was born in Mallorca, Spain, and raised in Montana. He began his acting career in children’s theatre while living in the US, before he and his family moved back to Spain when he was a teenager, where he began working as a model and taking acting classes.
He went on to appear in several Spanish stage, television, and film productions.
According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, his death has been ruled as suicide by hanging.
