Going on vacation is something most people look forward to each summer, though the plane ride there isn’t usually the most fun part of the trip.

However, we usually suffer through a few hours of discomfort in a less than spacious seat to get to our destination, making it as comfortable as we can to try and get a couple of hours sleep in the air.

So, the thought of one woman intentionally preventing the person in front of them from reclining their seat for their own comfort has left TikTok viewers up in arms.

The TikTok user, who goes by @clareduggan1982 on the app, revealed that she folds her own tray table down and then wedges a Pringles chip can between it and the seat to stop the person in front from being able to move their seat back.

See the clip below:

She told her followers in the voiceover: “This is the best life hack when you’ve got someone in front who is trying to put the seat down constantly.”

Her comments were soon flooded, and let’s just say many people were not happy about her actions.

They wrote: “This is ridiculous and quite frankly, you should be banned from flying, bloody pathetic.”

Others added: “yeah i would’ve turned around and slapped the s**t out youu. get a private jet if youu don’t want someone to put their seat back. tf,” and: “What a horrible human you are they are fully within their rights to put the seat down.”

Someone else wrote: “I would call the steward immediately to fix my seat.I do not fight with the passengers.i know my rights.”

Others were on Clare’s side, writing: “I would not recline my seat because I would be aware im being selfish,” and: “They need to remove the recline option or create more room between te seats.”

Someone else had a similar trick, commenting: “i did this with the water bottles. 8 hour flight with someones seat touching your nose. No thank you. I didn’t put my seat back out of respect for the people behind.”

Others added: “I held the seat in front in place for 3 hours once…” and: “Loads of planes you can’t put the seat back now lol way it should be.”

The clip has so far amassed over 1.5 million views and thousands of comments, with viewers left firmly in two camps – the recliners, and those that sit straight up for the whole duration of a flight.

Personally, if it’s a long-haul flight I am reclining for every second I possibly can, with the exception of during meal services – and if everyone else does the same, it shouldn’t adversely affect anyone else’s room.

But if you’re the type of person that can withstand an 11+ hour flight sitting straight upright in those uncomfortable seats, you’re a better person than I am.
