The singer took to the most famous passenger seat in the land – and it turns out she can make even supermarket shopping worthy of a tune.
Has it really been 15 years since Kelly Clarkson won American Idol? Apparently so, yet the singer has managed – with nary a scandal to her name – to make an impact on the music industry and avoid the well-trodden path to reality show obscurity.
And hitching a lift for the now much-loved Carpool Karaoke segment of The Late Late Show with James Corden, Clarkson proves her talent knows no bounds – making even a standard shopping query sound better than anything we’ve ever been able to croak into a microphone.
Singing snippets of hits Since U Been Gone, Because of You and Stronger, Clarkson is asked by Corden to demonstrate she can make anything sound good – and he challenges her to sing “Do you want the receipt or shall I put it in the bag?”

The singer duly knocks it out of the park. We’d like to request “Unexpected item in the bagging area” for the next album, please?
Corden joins in the tunes with admirable effort (his harmonising revealing he’s definitely practised heavily) and the pair go on to discuss what she wanted to be when she was younger and the fact Clarkson is name-checked in Hillary Clinton’s book, before picking up her husband and manager, Brandon Blackstock for a ‘date night’ in the back of the car.
Corden even provided the busy couple with a violinist to serenade them – which was lovely until she collapsed into giggles at Blackstock’s comment that the set-up felt less romantic and more like the prelude to a bad porn film.
With Pink appearing on the show recently and showcasing her similarly incredible voice while hanging upside down from gym equipment, surely there’s an album of singers crooning strange sentiments in odd places forthcoming. It’s nearly Christmas, after all.
